Landscape

Stemming from the study of geometric relations between sculpture and crafted landscape, the excavated conformation outlines and creates new space while functioning as bench and garden furniture. Conceived in simplistic form both functional and aesthetically pleasing, direct reference to natural geography captures the essence of place as the sculptural structure is able to speak of comfort and craft.

A conversation among landscape and forms carved from it, conceptual process involves a simple geometric prism which merges with the freeform terrain. Combining the abstract and the intricate, their intersection gives birth to formation’s textured surface shaping its wavy indentation. Convergence between natural and humanmade becomes suggestive of force of nature intersecting with the constructed world, visualising their inseparable connection, while revealing the definition of sculpture as a visual art form.

Following flowing shapes inspired by natural landscape, design process employed is allusive of carving in stone so as to reveal the artefact from it. With its clean and minimal look suggestive of rock cuttings, forces of corrosion are captured in the sweeping motion reflected on object itself, as if shaped by their flow on the mass.

Light compliments the sculptural volume. With its monolithic appearance, the sculpt will appear to float on freeform “rings” of light shaping its base. As the light lifts the rock, concepts of lightness and heaviness are revealed, while the sculptural attributes of scenery are translated to a functional object in the shape of a sinuous form. Making use of its silhouette expression, artwork aspires to function both as a design and sculptural entity which speaks for itself even when not in use.

Maintaining a sense of the organic while altering its appearance between night and day, light penetrates the volume like the hope that finds its way through. Combining the abstract with the geometric, the form in movement expresses the mutability of topography as a hint to evolution. Physical landscape is treated as reflection of cultural landscape, merging the 2 aspects that link people to their environment, finding hope in the world surrounding us.
 

Bridge

Triggered by the interaction along individuals and space, a minimal sculptural gesture functions as a bench defined by light transitions as it aspires to engage with its surroundings. Exploring light as a sculptural material while building a situation that is site specific, a simple curved formation draws inspiration from bridges and their historical importance as connection and communication paths among people. Light intensity is influenced by sound sensors, as city’s pulse activates the device hovering on a passage of light, delineating its figure through the poetics of illumination which draw attention to the art object.

Investing in the immaterial aspect of light and its ability to reflect the complexity and vibrancy of environment, emitting source is affected by surrounding sound changing its pulse in relation to public circulation in open space. Participants interact with the inviting structure that combines both an aesthetic and functional purpose, being conditioned by the landscape while engaging in dialogue with viewers. As a piece of public furniture it allows users to encounter the reacting light pulses as they walk around and sit on the bench.

Exploiting light’s capacity to physically alter sensory experience through complexities of soundscape, work engages with space embodying the voice of place. A distinct reference suggesting subject’s inseparable connection to time, light is treated as a life-giving source as the vibe of the city gives life back to the installation, signifying energy and optimism through its elementary visual nature. Generating radiant compositions results to an atmospheric glow, while the element of change relates to a strong rhythm that forms the 'bridge' between people and their place as artwork is brought to life by them.
