A molding is a strip of material, usually the same extruded profile, used mostly to cover transitions between surfaces, or for merely decorative purposes. The first records belong to ancient Egypt, its consolidation occurred in Greek architecture, and it is still in force today in some of our buildings. It is definitely an ornament with the necessary flexibility to last over time, adapting to the different styles / culture of the moment.

The facade to be intervened appears to be an expansion of a pre-existing building. Both its materiality and its appearance devoid of ornaments, highlight this differentiation. Faced with this consideration, the following question arises: How can the old museum building incorporate the façade to intervene? The answer is visible among its elements, the molding.

Like an act of magic, it manages to free itself from the pre-existing building, growing in size and generating movement, as if it had come to life to embrace the facade to be intervened. Using its moldable capacity, the molding acquires a leading value, encouraging itself to break the pre-established limits, and incorporating the annex to the old building through a single artistic gesture.

Its shape and materiality respond to a contemporary construction, since it is designed to be executed through steel pieces made with computerized cuts, which are then joined by internal welds. Its finish is achieved through an electrolytic zinc plating, an anticorrosive process so that it lasts in the open, giving the piece an iridescent effect that enhances the fluidity of the piece’s shape, in addition to changing color according to the point of view of the observer.
